A soccer ball with goose bumps

With its classic colour scheme - black dots on a white background - EUROPASS, official match ball of the 2008 European Championship, combines a nod to the past with numerous innovations.

It has nubs resembling goose bumps on the top layer - known as the PSC-Texture - these being designed to give the ball more power and swerve as well as offering a larger contact surface for more precise control in any type of weather.

Made up of 14 panels in the shapes of tongues and propellers and with only 24 junction points when assembled, EUROPASS – according to Bayer MaterialScience and adidas who developed it – also provides better flight characteristics.

A further benefit from the ball’s construction is a result of the use of patented Thermal Bonding Technology, which means the ball absorbs essentially no moisture. The heat-activated adhesive used is formulated with a waterborne PU dispersion from Bayer’s Dispercoll® U line of products.
